| The
Wheels for Wellness Society
was formed in Comox by the owner of Designated
Drivers in 1997. The purpose is to provide
transportation to centralized medical
appointments for those requiring it. The
Society depends on your donations
to maintain the long term
viability of this service. We will take Social
Services, Department of Veterans Affairs, and
Native Aboriginal clients, although will require
the mileage allowance given by these agencies be
paid to your driver. If you wish we will bill
direct.
YOUR
DRIVER MAY ACCEPT DONATIONS TO THE SOCIETY.
The
Society will pick you up at your home, take you
where you need to go, wait for you and return you
to your home. The exceptions are: If you live in
Tahsis, Zeballos, or any other off main road
community you will be given a designated pickup
and drop-off spot by the dispatcher.
We
will take you to any out of town MEDICAL
appointment, for example Victoria, Nanaimo,
Campbell River that
exceeds 75 KM (one way)
from your point of departure.
|
Your
volunteer driver will
be a polite and courteous individual with
excellent driving skills and knowledge of routes
to your appointment. Drivers are 'Professionals',
have criminal records checks, and a 10 year clean
driving record.
If you are physically
handicapped we will need to know well in advance in
order to provide an adequate vehicle. This
includes the requirement to take a walker.
Wheels
for Wellness requires advanced
notice in
order to book a driver and vehicle. Two
weeks is
normal, but short notice may be attainable in
most circumstances.
